Volunteer Services Internships
The Volunteer Services department offers two paid internships each semester. Interns gain a well-rounded experience in many areas, including: coordinating and implementing programs and events, writing for newsletters and other print pieces, motivating and supervising volunteers, customer service, general office management, and exposure in a hospital setting.
This internship is well suited for individuals seeking careers in fields such as marketing, public relations, non-profit management, business, public administration, and hospital administration. All internships are located in Memphis, TN.
How to apply:
We are no longer accepting applications for our paid position for the Fall 2013 semester.
We are currently seeking internship applicants for the Spring 2014 semester. A cover letter and resume should be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, October 3. The ideal Spring intern candidate would be available early January through mid-May. Additionally, the candidate should be available full time, 40 hours a week and able to work Monday through Friday and some evenings and weekends, as necessary.

Job Responsibilities may include:
- Assists in executing our student volunteer program through implementation of “Night Live” programs and activity programs at the Memphis Grizzlies House.
- Assists with volunteer retention through writing articles for newsletter and the Web.
- Assists in coordinating and implementing volunteer appreciation activities.
- Coordinates and implements our summer Volunteen program.
- Participates as a Helping Hands volunteer when necessary; helps promote the service internally.
- Assists coordinators in implementing variety of projects designed to retain volunteers such as birthday recognition, writing of volunteer spotlights, satisfaction surveys, and more.
Education required:
Must be currently enrolled in a degree seeking program. Preferred area of course concentration in non-profit management, business, communications, public administration or public relations. Must be Junior or Senior to be considered; Masters level preferred. Must have a GPA of 3.0 in each of the last four semesters. GPA will be validated by transcripts and communication with advisor.
Special skills, knowledge and abilities required:
- Possesses the ability to interact positively with all ages and types of people from different backgrounds. Understands how to maintain good relations with patients and parents, hospital staff, volunteers and the general public.
- Possesses excellent customer services skills.
- Has the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
- Possesses program development skills.
- Strong sense of organizational abilities required; ability to prioritize and multi-task, strong attention to detail.
- Ability to research and initiate creative craft projects from concept to implementation.
- Has working knowledge of computer operations, preferably Microsoft Office Products such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel.
- Strong working knowledge of event promotion and marketing through Social Media outlets.
